mouldingsIf you are considering redecorating your home or office or are currently building a new property, doing the decorating (particularly the wall painting) yourself can be an easy way to cut down on the costs of the renovation or build.  It is also a great way to make your mark on the property and to really feel that it is your own.  If you are considering a do-it-yourself project or decorating scheme there is an easy way to paint your rooms without making a mess or feeling that the job hasn't gone smoothly.

One of the main decorating methods people decide to take on themselves is painting, simply because small single-colour jobs don't require a huge level of expertise.  Wall painting is relatively simple providing you prepare the surface properly and read the paint instructions before you begin the application.  The general rule of thumb is first to remove any objects on the wall you're painting - including blu-tac, sticky-tape, tacks, hooks or nails - and to fill any holes or dents.  Next sandpaper the wall so that the entire surface is even and then rub down with a cloth to remove any dust.  Use painter's masking tape around the edges of the wall to protect the mouldings you don't want to be painted.  Edge around the perimeter of the wall first with a painter's brush and small amounts of the paint, and then fill in the rest with a roller.  You may need to do more than one coat, but make sure you allow each coat enough time to dry.
